Dr. Curtis Hancock

Dr. Curtis HancockDr. Curtis L. Hancock is a Research Fellow with the Institute, with a focus on Organizational Ethics and the Priorities of the Person. He is also a Full Professor of Philosophy at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri, where he holds the Joseph M. Freeman Chair of Philosophy. He is a past President of the American Jacques Maritain Association and the current President of the Gilson Society.

 Although he has taught at Rockhurst since 1985, Curtis spent several years as an ethics consultant to several government agencies, including several departments within the State of Oklahoma. He has published many books, articles and reviews on the history of philosophy including a book on ethics, How Should I Live? (Minneapolis: Paragon House, 1991). In addition, Curtis has co-authored a book on the philosophy of religion, titled Truth and Religious Belief (New York: M.E. Sharpe, 1998), and co-edited a book on political philosophy, Freedom, Virtue, and The Common Good (Notre Dame: University of Notre Dame Press, 1996). Most recently, he has published a book with the title Recovering a Catholic Philosophy of Elementary Education (Mt. Pocono, Pennsylvania: Newman House Press, 2005).

Dr. Hancock has a B.A. and an M.A. in philosophy from the University of Oklahoma, and earned his Ph.D. in philosophy at Loyola University of Chicago. He resides in Kansas City, Missouri and is a board member of the Catholic Education Foundation and a Director of the Great Books Academy.
